This is the last day of the Annual RWA National Conference. It is surprising how fast it goes by. Today I slept in a bit and did not making it to the breakfast or General Session featuring Karen Rose. I am sorry I missed that. I’m sure it was good.
I did make it down to hear Madeline Hunter’s workshop on MOTIVATION: THE GLUE THAT HOLDS STORIES TOGETHER. After that, I went to St. Martin’s booksigning. I was not going to go to book signings this year, because they cut into workshop time, but really, how can you not go get FREE books?
After a less than good lunch in the mall near the hotel (my only bad meal this week), I went to ENGLISH TITLES AND USAGE by Jo Beverly, followed by BUILDING YOUR INDIE PUBLISHING CAREER FROM THE GROUND UP by Jennifer Ashley and THE LAWS OF ATTRACTION by Greg and Silver James.
I joined Sharon T. and my roommate, Carra Cope for dinner, at the hotel restaurant. I’ll make this note, now….for a conference hotel, they sure are short on wait/bar staff. Maybe there are not enough people needing jobs to fill the spots, but the restaurant was more than half empty and when I arrived (not realizing Sharon already had a table for us), I was told there was a 30-60 minute wait. Three thousand people in the hotel who need to be somewhere in 90 minutes and we have to wait to be fed in a mostly empty restaurant? Seems odd to me.
The awards ceremony was all it should be and I’ll blog on that more later.
Once again, this was a wonderful learning experience. Everyone who writes romance needs to attend a conference! Next year’s will be in New York City.
